September Beginnings:

Futian International & Fine Arts School International Department School News NEWSLETTER 9/25/2019

A WORD FROM THE DEAN Dear FIFA Families, It’s been a great first month of school with our students and teachers. It’s hard to believe that we are ready for the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration. To commemorate this important Chinese holiday and to embrace tradition, students are encouraged to bring lanterns from home this coming week to decorate their classrooms, while teachers plan fun and engaging lessons aligned to what it means to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday.

As a reminder, there is no school on Thursday, October 1st and school will resume on Friday, October 9th. In addition, we will have school this Sunday, September 27th with the Wednesday schedule and on October 10th with the Thursday schedule. We hope all of our families have a safe and fun holiday.

We would like to overview all the recent additions to the the FIFA academic school year:

1. Achieve3000 and SmartyAntz, research based reading programs, have replaced RAZ kids and StudyIsland. This program has better internet availability in China and higher MAP gains when used with fidelity. 2. Academic leveling according to student skill need is offered in all G4-G9 classes, both math and ELA. 4. Afterschool clubs, free of charge, are arranged this year for all students GK to G9. 5. The addition of competition clubs to middle and high school, such as ModelUN and AMC 8/10. 6. Small group tutoring for grades KG-G5 available two days per week. 7. The addition of Gradelink management systems to track and report to parents about classroom assignments, tests, quizzes, projects, and attendance. 8. The expansion of InspireScience courses through G8. 9. The addition of Engageny curriculum 10. The addition of Accelerated math program. 11. The expansion of Chinese humanities through G9.
